	BUFFALO CHIPS POTATO CHIPS 1979-1981 Slogan: “Hand made in small batches on the plains of Sacramento” I was hired as the art director and creative consultant for the local Sacramento potato chip company based on my ability to design a card that would get the owner, Gary Beutler, into any grocery buyers office. Gary had no prior grocery experience and needed something clever to “open doors”. It worked!The whole ad campaign was entered in the Sac Ad Club awards in 1980 and won 6 golds and 3 silvers for outstanding local advertising. BUFFALO CHIPS BAG The company had already had a logo designed when I joined on - so it became my responsibility to handle the packaging and look and feel of all marketing materials for the product.


	DOE SKIN POSTERS It wouldn’t be very popular now, and I don’t think I’d use them again but for certain establishments like Gopher Gulch (which at the time had the only electronic bullriding, remember Urban Cowboy?) the posters fit right in. My illustration was done as a Crow Quill ink drawing, blown-up and silk screened on 24” x 36” doe skins.


	BUFFALO CHIPS BUSINESS CARDS This is the card. It’s a two part card that was designed to look and function like a giant chip being pulled out of a “Buffalo Chips” bag.


		BUFFALO CHIPS GROCERY RACK I designed the potato chip rack out of some 2 x 2 pine and the empty 100 lb. potato sacks that were lying around the factory. A local cabinet shop manufactured and sewed the sacks to the racks.

	WHAT HAPPENED TO BUFFALO CHIPS? Despite the tremendous sucess of the product in Sacramento and San Francisco, the Buffalo Chips Company ran into difficulties in an ownership buyout. The company never recovered from the financial losses as a result of 5 years of litigation. Several attempts were made by other individuals to reserect the company with no success.
